Which current Straw Hat was “waiting” for Luffy to arrive and recruit them? This logic you hold fast to doesn’t apply to any other protagonist, so why does it have to exclude Yamato from joining right away?
I didn't mean that. Every straw hat joined the crew because of Luffy. If Yamato's reason does not change, then I see a change why she stays in Wano or explore on her own. Yamato should show a position that she can occupy and a deeper reason she also needs that offers more for the story and makes more sense than this dawn of the world thing.

What inspiration has Carrot drawn from Luffy past purely wanting to leave Zou for the first time? What position could Carrot hold in the crew that isn’t currently filled? We’ve had her for more than 150 chapters, and she has, at best, an equally strong case to join the crew as we’ve seen from Yamato in five.
Idk, the nature of how Jinbe joined was already very unorthodox and honestly we are at a point where the crew should be complete post arc, so I wouldn't put it behind Oda for putting a fishman, mink and child of a Yonko on Luffys ship to cap it all off.
Carrot is about to pull a Neko/Inu though. She literally snuck in board already like they did to WB and Roger.
Just saying, watch her do it again in Wano lol. I can see Jinbe being the "9th", Yamato being the "10th", then out of the blue, Carrot being the "11th" after the arc is over because she entirety sneaks onto the ship lol. Be very suspicious if you don't see her as they leave Wano
Edit: Yes, Im team all 3 and crazy enough to believe it can happen. Both Carrot and Yamato give serious strawhat vibes, its very unlike anything Oda has done with other supporting characters.

I'm not really sure anymore but i think the reason why carrot just left it with luffy was because it was the opportunity for her to explore with more experienced people she knows and trusts personally. Otherwise we can ask a carrot fan.

When the strongest argument for Carrot’s place in the crew is “She’ll be able to see things,” there is no argument to be had. Yamato has a whole fuckin’ book of one-of-a-kind information about finding the thing Luffy wants, a vivacious personality/more direct interactions with the captain than the mink has had, AND can catch two members of the Flying Six off guard with a single attack...y’all are doubting your own eyes, which must be why some people want Carrot so bad 🙄

By the way, and once again - POTENTIAL CREWMATES DO *NOT* NEED TO FILL A SPECIFIC POSITION. You think these crews with hundreds, THOUSANDS of members have every single person assigned to a single duty?? We’ve already gotten all the essential AND several non-essential spots filled; you’re gonna tell me Yamato has to be an archaeologist like Robin?? How many fucking archaeologists do you think the Yonko and Supernovae have??

While I 100% agree that Yamato will be the next Nakama, I think having a role on the ship is definitely a requirement. The crews with hundreds or thousands of members are clearly a very different setup from the Strawhats. So far every Strawhat has a specific role. This is not something that is going to change all of a sudden. The reason this does not really restrict anyone from joining, however, is because Oda made positions like "musician", "archeologist", and even "swordsman" good enough to join. If Yamato doesn't have anything more specific she can do Oda can just say she's the "Samurai" or something and call it a day. I think it's likely she'll be given some specific function though.

It’s not going to change, but it’s also not gonna lead to a sudden swarm of new, position-less people on the crew. Also, since you’ve just named three entire main characters with positions that have no real practicality, “samurai” as a position would be every bit as legitimate and defensible as AT LEAST “swordsman/combatant.”

I don't care whether Carrot will be part of the crew or not. That's why I don't need to argue. You are welcome to do this with someone who wants carrot as a crew member.
Where did I say that Yamato should be an archaeologist like Robin? They already have an archaeologist. This is not about any random characters, but about the protagonists. Yes, they have to because they are the protagonists.

You missed my point - pirate crews don’t NEED archaeologists, or musicians, or specifically designated swordsmen, so what does the position matter when all the important ones are filled??

Buddy, there isn’t a person in this fandom who can accurately pin down what Oda’s thinking. Unless someone can pull a quote of his that unequivocally states everyone in the SHP *has* to have a hard and fast position on the ship, everything we think we know about the recruitment process is shared headcanon and nothing more.
