He did not cut punk records in half he cut the lower part of the island but he was careful not cut the top that had the mother flame and punk records .
As for Saturn his goal was stopping the message more than anything else and we see why this chapter with him now being dead lol .

WG can say Saturn died from a heart attack and Garling is the new elder. Since we know almost everyone knows the elders this would make sense.
