Zoro vs Kaku did not get animated with justice honestly, It was good in the manga but the Anime botched it lowkey.Animations were very stiff, no type of fluidity....If that fight got the Wano Animation it would probably be considered Zoro's best fight in the series.
Yeah, I completely agree with this sentiment.

Zoro vs Mr 1 wasn't overtly animated, but it had great character art and some absolutely perfect direction that made the storybeats land.

Zoro vs Kaku was kind of just middling throughout.

The best thing we got from Zoro vs Kaku was from episode of Merry, and I don't particularly care for episode of Merry generally.

Thats some cute looking bear in that episode :neesama:
There's a funny story about this episode. The animator for a large portion of that scene posted bear pics on twitter frequently when mentioning their involvement.
Also, this.

The Mr.1 Fight had good animation for what it was...the impact of the attacks were there. Infact I think all the fights in alabasta were decent in terms of animation. Theres a couple of eye popping scenes in that arc. But yea honestly with Zoro vs Kaku probably has the best choreography for any Zoro fight,Wano Animators would have bodied these panels in the Anime.

The thing I'll say about the Mr 1 fight, was that it demonstrated how expert storyboarding and direction can substitute for fairly passable action animation.

Even though the animation wasn't exemplary for that fight, that episode was a masterclass in how to create and build tension in action sequences.

You don't necessarily need overtly fancy animation(though that does help), to make a scene land effectively.

Its a bit sad that I don't Katsumi Ishizuka(who was an animator and animation superviso)even back in the day handled an episode of Zoro vs Kaku.

He did however handle Sanji vs Jabra, which had some pretty nice action, and a nice finisher. He also handled the Jet Gattling for Luffy against Lucci.
Its interesting to see how much his grown and changed as an animator in 13 years.

Holy shit. Cringe piece. Who the fuck lets these Dragonball tryhard edgelords animate these fights? That oni giri was 1000x worse than Luffy's kaio ken against Kaido
Whats cringe is that One Piece fans are this embarrassing in regards to seeing some actually modern action animation finally appearing in the show.

This episode literally had a scene that was inspired by a One Punch Man animator.

Even though the batte was heavily prolonged, I'm happy with it. It gave us so many cool fighting sequence between the 2 Supernovas. My only wish is Toei keeps up with this momentum of epic battles and fully delivers during Oden's backstory. Manga did Oden very dirty by skipping every major battles from him. Imagine him clashing with Ray, Gaban and dusting off some Navy soldiers/Enemy Pirates in a Samurai Style..:steef:
Luffy is already showing his Haki aura in this episode and I don't like it. Toei really needs to follow the Manga on that one or many Anime only fans will have a lot to complain about this sudden Power Up.:kata:

Ishizuka has animated a lot of Sanjis attacks actually, even minor moments from sanji the dude has animated.

Yeah, Ishizuka is pretty nutty.

Been incredibly happy with his output this arc. The manga just needs to give more real opportunities for characters to shine so animators can cut loose.

The animation is so good, all hail Toei
...That picture doesn't demonstrate animation though.

In shows long shots that are zoomed in on, and inbetweens.

Not animation.

Which is...

you know...

Movement.
