Mihawk is comparing "surpassing himself" with what exactly? 
You're comparing a power reference, to a non power one.. Making Mihawk statement useless.. Do you understand?..

Oda also has attached Power to Mihawk and Wealth to Crocodile. Not hard to figure out that Buggy is Fame.
You only have to make up a threat above Mihawk when Zoro takes care of him. Seems like that threat is Buggy.
Around the same power difference as Mihawk and Don Krieg during first Zoro vs Mihawk duel.
Luffy wants a lot of things but his combat performance doesn't back up his wishes. It is the underling who is strong, while captain is weak.

There is no ONLY strongest swordsman. By becoming strongest swordsman you become the strongest in the whole world.

We know that Mihawk fought strong opponent until there was no more worthy opponents.
We don't know if Mihawk never fought yonko Shanks. I keep hearing people say that he didn't but there isn't any proof We do know he called Shanks an one arm has been. The question is how did he determine he's a one has been it they never fought?
