It probably was an inside job. JFK talked about going after bankers and secret societies. Most likely killed by the CIA.

I was reading theories and one of them said that it was a misfire from one of JFK's own people and they covered it up.

I don't believe that, but from how Trump talked, he made it sound like he read nothing shocking. It's just embarrassing for those who are still alive.
