Character Discussion Worst handled character in One Piece ?

#7
Yeah what Oda did to Big Mom was outright criminal.

And his treatment of Tashigi is disgusting as well.

Both had so much potential both as characters and in terms of power, only for this potential to be thrown down the toilet. Same for Big Mom's daughters and many other female characters.
Not really, Tashigi was shown to be below Zoro in swordsmanship when she debuted.

That doesn't mean she can't get more development though. I'd like for her to at least make Zoro struggle a bit. It doesn't have to be a Zoro vs King or Zoro vs Daz Bones level fight but a good couple of clashes like Lucci or Pica would be nice
On one hand, yes. On the other hand she shouldn't get a greater growth rate as a swordsman than Zoro during these years if Zoro is to believably become n1... unless Tashigi comes near that as well, and that sounds like too much at least to me for how weak she was back in the day.

Chopper
Tashigi
Big Mom

These are the big three. Not just because Choppers weak, that’s fine, the problem is Oda turning Chopper from a good story about a character who’s looks make him unwanted all his life to “OMG cute mascot” is a huge betrayal of Choppers narrative. And odas more and more eliminating the monstrous nature of Choppers forms to make them cutesy which is… not great.

Tashigi starts the story well, clumsy yet skilled swordswomen who cares deeply for swords and while Oda quickly establishes her as weaker, he also constantly pushes that she’ll grow stronger. Only for her to… not and then get weirdly sexualized.

Big Mom… doesn’t need to be said

To be fair to Tashigi, in two years, she went from a Chief Petty Officer to a Captain. For those more familiar with army ranks, that's a Staff Sergeant to Colonel.

....But Zoro had two years of training with the best swordsman around.

Yeah but getting embarrassed by a Warlord subordinate pre timeskip then called a weakling by a warlord, just to get immediately negged by a less hyped warlord post timeskip really made that growth feel pointless.

I'll give you Monet, but if Law handled Smoker easily enough, then logically, she wouldn't fare much better. And she didn't.

Yeah she could at least have given more difficulty to Law and to Vergo, and defeated Monet on her own. But well...

And her relations with Zoro, but also with Nami to justify Nami giving her the children, could have been developed and explored further as well.
