I guess if the twin exists then its Oda's way of having his cake and eating it too

- 2 armed Shanks potentially
- Luffy having complete and utter animosity towards a "Shanks" if need be
- Keeping Shanks himself a relatively good/peaceful person even given his background.

I guess we'll have to wait and see who that 1121 character actually ends up being too.

Sigh, I keep going back and forth on this shit.

This scene to me really is confusing as fuck on both ends of the argument, but I really feel like its far more justified if its just Shanks.

1. If its a twin, why is he wearing a cloak in Mariejoa (and now again this chapter?) Sure, i get the twin appearance argument, but thats also easily explained by Shanks having dual roles

Also this dude is wearing a white collared shirt under the cloak, just like Shanks:

2. The dialogue also just....doesnt make sense? They ask him why he's there, given his standing. If he's not a dual role God Knight/Pirate, why ask him this if its just his twin whos a God Knight that resides on Mariejoa? Why would a God Knight need to "travel all this way" if they are upper level CDs who clearly deal with CD matters in Mariejoa?

@ArturCantSpeakJapanese super torn on this after really going through this scene again. The red herring is like 3d chess on fan expectations at this point lol, but him actually having a twin complicates this scene completely.
agreed on all these points yeah. Probably the most convincing argument against this being Shanks are his speech patterns in this scene. Shanks is usually fairly direct if not rude in his speech, being a rough pirate who doesn't answer to anyone and all that. But in the scene with the Gorosei he's being extremely formal and relatively polite. The theorists say this means it can't be Shanks, because Shanks doesn't speak that formally. But Japanese is a context-heavy language and people speak differently depending on where they are and who they're talking to (For example, Fujitora is like a parody of this, he'll switch from extreme formality to country bumpkin rudeness mid-sentence depending on how he's feeling) so it could also just be explained by Shanks treating the Gorosei with respect because of how powerful/high ranking they are. If he really were a rat, he'd still act like that, in my opinion.

All your other points are also good. If he has to travel and usually stays away from marie geoise he can't be a god's knight. Why wear the cloak and disguise himself to visit the gorosei instead of doing it openly?

No, even from that perspective, it doesn't make sense
Shanks has that distinctive scar and missing left arm. Unless this guy just so happened to lose his left arm and also get a scar on his eye, there's no way the people would confuse him for Shanks.

He Respects older people

let's calm down for a second

you're hyping up a group that's probably future mid trio victims at best. probably around Cracker on average
You might be thinking of BB Pirates right there, zero chance any of the mid trio (Robin Brook Franky) will actually take down a Holy Knight

We will probably get Holy Squires just like we got TobiRoppo to compensate for the fact they’re weak

Holy Knights should honestly be a force comparable to or greater than FA + Admirals. Not sure why would Celestial Dragons would settle for less
