The brother trope is better because it can explain why Shanks was abandoned in the first place and makes us see how 2 Twins raised differently ended up being opposites. At the end of the day, Celestial Dragons and Pirates were just raised in different conditions, possibly explaining the Void Century War and the conflict between the two ideologies.

And, how Pranks knew the identity when fruit was with shanks?

The question is, why would he notice Luffy's fruit before the Elders? Considering how many years they have lived, and that they receive the reports of everything that happens in the world, including every single thing that Luffy did, even how he did it.

We don’t know what Pranks has been up to, however, it’s much more likely a Holy Knight can figure out the identity of the gum gum fruit than Shanks who would know significantly less than a holy knight.

It’s possible pranks discovered the identity of Luffys fruit while he was on a mission. It’s not like the HK just stay in Mariejoa, hell, even Doflamingo could’ve told them the name of Luffys fruit.
