Ranking the Soulsborne-Sekiro Games

DS3 is completely peak, almost a flawless game imo. Maybe challenge/speed runners would disagree bit that ain’t me. Impeccable bosses, peak atmosphere, lore, story, music, etc…

My one critique would be the DS3 early game kind of sucks, like the game really doesn’t hit its perfection for me until Irithyl.
True, deacons sage and wolnir are complete garbage lol
Still better than DS1 where the first part is just legendary, to this day I think Undead Burg is From’s finest area, but after you beat O&S you get unfinished izalith with literal dragon ass monsters, the 30 seconds long tomb of giants, ghost town londo and Dukes (only decent one). DLC has great bosses but the areas are just meh
Terrible boss fights too

DS2 is kind of in the middle, you have shit bosses/ parts throughout the gamw, but the peak is definitely towards the end with the dlc

the lore is good for the most part, but my controversial opinion is that DS2's lore is better.

ds2 dlc is peak if you avoid the optional areas:josad:

ds1's boss design hasn't aged well outside of the dlc.

I actually love Wall of Lothric and Undead settlement.

Don't know why, but it just feels good in those areas.

Literally the whole Lothric Civil War rabbit hole is my favorite lore rabbit hole in the history of FROM game lore. In case you guys aren’t familiar, the rabbit hole goes something like this:

-Sulyvahn is the agent who basically ended the whole Dark Souls world. He was the head of the scholars who secretly filled Prince Lothric’s head with thoughts of rebellion before installing himself as the Pope of the Way of White. The Black Hand (who is like the Lothric CIA) secretly realize this and planned to kill Sulyvahn. That is the reason you can summon a Black Hand to fight Sulyvahn. The Lothric CIA is trying to assassinate him. The Black Hand also wanted to assassinate Prince Lothric himself but the agent who planned to do so was killed by those 3 NPCs at the end of the Grand Archives.

-Gertrude is a daughter of Gwynevere and basically the catalyst for the agents of Dark (the Angels) invading Lothric Castle. Gertrude became a prophet for the Angellic Faith (almost like a Dark Jesus) and slowly was able to spread the Angellic Faith among Lothric which caused the Red vs Blue civil war. The Angellic Faith are literally just agents of dark who put on a false image of purity in order to corrupt the minds within the Kingdom of Lothric

-Lothric Castle as it exists in DLC is in the aftermath of a giant civil war that tore the whole kingdom apart. This is just the intro to the entire rabbit hole, thank me later:

Will have to redo this list at some point because my opinion is completely different now.

I think my top game is something out of Sekiro/ER/DS3/AC6 (not a soulslike but I love it so fuck off).

Bloodborne has fallen a bit for me.

Biggest issue for me is how the linearity of the world design affects build creation, I did a pyromancy play-through and I was basically playing an underpowered melee build for 70% of the game due to having to allocate stats to attunement and all of the best spells being later on. To contrast in DeS, DS1, DS2, ER you can sequence break to get spells that fit your build early thanks to the world design so you’re not locked into an underpowered build for most run.

For the main positives I think DS3 has the best atmosphere (I freaking love games where the world is ending) and boss wise specifically I would say DS3 has the most consistently great roster out of any of the games (especially if you include Ringed City) although I think Sekiro and post-DLC ER have higher peaks.

Have you played DS1 and DS3 ? As story these two mog ER so bad, ESPECIALLY DS1

i think Bloodborne and DS1 have the best story's in Soulsborne.

Agree with your gaming enjoyment Take
DS1 is overrated, as for DS3, I will see during my next playthrough, until then I had a buggy/annoying experience with it which in return kept me unfocused from appreciating a story.

Damn no one likes Dark Souls 2
Unfortunately, DS2 is like the Ugly Duck but with no happy ending. I was surprised ngl, always thought Demon's Souls would have DS2's spot.
I like all of them.

I actually like DS2 more than DeS and Bloodborne w/o DLC.

Bloodborne has fallen down quite a bit for me now that I’ve done all the chalice dungeons and an arcane run.

Chalice dungeons suck, but they have way more unique content than people realize, so I don’t think they can just be ignored.

Im trying to like it but in all honesty its just really ass, just poorly designed

I’m not too deep into the games or lore, however I was always fascinated by the many boss ranking videos and game series ranking videos

I think I would like to look at a very in depth video on why Souls 2 is deemed as so bad

Sekiro > Bloodborne > Elden Ring as far as story goes.
Hot take time.

I actually think Sekiro is the weakest game story wise, it’s my opinion that for story you either have to commit to full on obscurity/lore or do a straightforward narrative.

Whenever you try to do a hybrid approach it doesn’t work, and a lot of straightforward plot points come across ass pulls.

Like the second mortal blade, if you didn’t do Isshin’s side quest and read the associated items, Genichiro literally just pulls a second mortal blade out of nowhere to resurrect Isshin.

The Elden Ring DLC had a similar issue where the context for the Consort Radahn reveal as behind side/optional content.

I personally don’t really think stuff like this works.

I had the unfortunate pleasure to play DS2 all the way back during its debut, when it was at its worst, like all the bugs and messy gameplay aside, I've seen the worst of it. So the lasting brain damage is there, I was questioning if it was me or the game that is fucked up.

DS2 has a lot issues for sure, but it also has a weird creative charm imo.

Also the best pure magic builds from a fun perspective out the DS trilogy. Maybe even more than ER honestly

Well that’s a first!
I’m glad to see someone enjoys it at least
