Character Discussion Why I love Yamato

#1
Hey, I'm having a bad time trying to sleep, and so I thought something that may help with the root issue of why I struggle to sleep is to talk about One Piece, and I have decided, I will talk about why I love Yamato

Before I go into the main reasons, I would like to ask you to please look into this with my perspective, that is, of someone who for the large majority of their life has been abused and mistreated physically and mentally by their family and the people around them, as that does heavily influence I think my perspective on Yamato

I just realised this, but if there is any one conqueror aspect I would give to Yamato, like Zoro's conqueror's haki being brought by his desire to become the world's strongest swordsman, it is faith/hope, but I would say faith is hope

Yamato's faith and hope

A little child, inspired by Oden, by his sacrifice, and the future promise of the people being saved, was still afraid of being in a dark room

But her father left her there, and not just in the darkness she feared, he also had her chained up, a little child, chained by her dad, and left to starve

And for her faith and hope, she was rewarded with food and a partial freedom by the Wano samurai,

She then trained for 20 years, assuming that she was 8 years old when Oden passed away, I don't remember if that was the case, and despite not being able to leave Wano, she refused to submit to her dad's evil offers, she refused to become a dictator over Wano as shogun, and her faith was again rewarded with her meeting with Ace, even though she suffered a lot later because of it, due to Ace's mistake of following his pride

Look at the frustratrion and doubt and hesitancy in her eyes, in both of these situations, as if she doubts her hope is really being rewarded by meeting Ace, as if she is frustratred with him having a firey attitude and pushing back to her first conversation attempts with him, and as if she hesitates about her identity when she is called Kaido's daughter

I think you can see all three of them appear as you look at those three expressions, the first is the doubt, the second is the doubt and the frustratrion, and the third expression ^ shows all three

"
Ace: FORGET ABOUT THE CUFFS...WHY DO YOU LET HIM CHAIN YOUR HEART TOO?!

Yamato: WHAT?!!

"

And, her faith and hope really was rewarded

Yamato's pure happiness at being able to hear of the possibilities of living freely and her experiencing the beginings of the reward of her hopeful faith

Again, please remember, this is a person who has been hit, abused, starved, chained, by her dad, and inspired by his enemy to live a life opposied to his authoritarian ways, and help the people live free, for 20 years

A living nightmare day to day, for 20 years, and she kept being hopeful and having faith for the future

And thank God she did, because if she didn't, the raid on Onigashima would not have suceeded and the dawn of the world would not come

I have made a post before saying that Yamato's fight with Kaido is beautiful, personally for me, every single point of that fight beat for beat word for word I and many people have experienced in our struggles with abuse

And fortunately she is helping train Momonosuke and Wano's samurai so that the country's forces will be strong enough to defend from other pirates and from the world governement, after which she will hopefully join the crew

And so in my opinion, Yamato is amazingly incredible and a very good example of overcoming darkness using hope and walking by faith,

Yamato is one of the worst characters created. She was such a last minute creation that she can't even follow the themes of the arc. Everyone else gets punished for clinging to the memory of Oden and being someone they're not, except for Yamato.
But Yamato wasn't clinging to the memory of Oden, she was walking in the hope for freedom, which Oden's sacrifice partly represented

Hey dude I’m sorry to hear about all the abuse and trauma you’ve gone through and I hope things have gotten far better over the years.

Thanks for sharing your story. It really was nice to see an in depth perspective of why you love a character such as Yamato, it’s even given me some new things to appreciate about her

I originally only just liked her cause she was AND STILL IS stronger than a certain moss scrub and she pisses off their fanbase sooo badly 💀💀💀 (Evidenced by the guy commenting above) and performed vs Kaido better than the Moss scrub and she’s an actual strong woman besides Big Mom and Boa

It was quite refreshing to see another powerful woman in manga. And a uniquely designed one at that!

I understand why you love yamato. She is well written. The only part that I don't like is her literal impersonation of oden. I mean she can want to be like oden, a free individual sailing the see. But changing her personality to literally become Oden is a bit too much for my taste. I want her to be herself, not to be someone else. She should accept her true identity. She still can want to be free and all but she shouldn't cosplay as someone else.

Lol I'm just ranting about her man.

Something I missed is that she wanted to go out to sea by the time 20 years passed

But that dream didn't come through, however things ended up for the better in the end, and she was rewarded with that for still pursuing it even though the first wish didn't work out,
Post automatically merged:

Also pretty cool is that she says she will be much, much, much stronger, like the very very very strongest song

I just passed over your thread. I will read it after a good sleep. I just wanted to say that I understand your love for Yamato.

Any good storyteller can understand how amazing her story is.

And why people who say stuff like this:

>>

.. Do not understand Yamato's story or even Wano's thematics at all.

I will try to explain why a bit more in detail later. I think this is a good moment to dive a little deeper into her narration.

I don't like the kind of condescending/haughty tone with "Any good storyteller can understand how amazing her story is.", but I do agree she's a pretty good character regardless.

You might not like it but that's how it is. I will be respectfull when people start to be respectfull as well.

Blax is expressing his love for a character and the first things he gets is a post without the understanding of actual storytelling understanding of the thematics of the arc of Yamato saying how the writing he likes so much is trash and this is just a example out of a hundred.

This is everywhere on this forum or in "edgy" fan circles. And anyone who express positive positions for this story in front of those guys (because its mostly guyz) gets that type of reaction. I was in a yamato V Carrot war and even in this "conflict", I was the one of the biggest defender of her character while her own "defenders" were trashing on her for being weird. This should tell you everything you need to know about this side of the fanbase. So excuse me if I lost my respect along the way for people trashing blindly One Piece.

What I'm saying here is factual. Any good storyteller can see why Yamato is a good character especially in front of the thematics of the arc, but not only, in front also of the thematics of the entire yonko saga.

I'm done with people thinking they can analyse the story and just lash out in groups on the opinion of other thinking that it has no effect on people who love One Piece (or even others story, it's not particular to One Piece). Those guys are not only ruining the potential interesting discussions, they are ruining the experience of others.

If you don't like this F. story. Go read another F story. The door is F. open.

On those words. I'm going to sleep. I will explain in detail what I meant about her narration later.
