As databook said only Kaido and King were going to Marineford.
They were flying and Shanks wifi diffed them negating their devil fruit transformation. As devil fruit users they could drown into sea , Shanks offered them salvation and for exchange they had to return back and not interfere with war as they planned.
They accepted and since that day Shanks made it into Kaido top 5 list.

I care about feats and by feats Kaido didnt show superiority over Oden who was just commander of Whitebeard .
