I'm sure Lucci didn't embarrass base Luffy to such high levels, like putting the key in Luffy's mouth, easily dodging all his attacks, then making him paniked bcoz of a named attack.

Luffy immediately realised Gaban is powerful and pulled G5. Also, Zoro busted ACoC as well which wasn't the case with Lucci.

Luffy chose to immediately use G5 against Lucci without feeling out his power first. We can say he simply wanted to test it out some more.

In this chapter they felt the Haki and attack from Gaban and then Zoro even decided to use aCoC right off the bat while Luffy at the same time jumped immediately to G5.

You realize this is Gaban's named chapter, right? He is not going to show anything more powerful than this, that axe attack was his equivalent of Garp's Galaxy Impact.

Getting Luffy to go Gear 5 is the literal bare minimum expected from that, it would be quite a pathetic showing if he couldn't even manage that.
