His ancestors being Wano based and that story coming up is all but confirmed. With that's, there's only two possibilities for me.

The most likely to me is that he's a Shimotsuki on his mother's side. Koshiro is his uncle, Kuina is his cousin.

The more interesting would be if one of his parents was another Kurozumi. And Kozaburo took the child into exile to protect it.

An interesting take on it, but there is a little bit of problem with your theory. The thing is that Kozaburo has left Wano for about 50 years or so, which makes it seems unlikely for him to bring Zoro into exile.

So what do you make of Ushimaru? Just a red herring? Seems kinda odd to introduce another Shimotsuki Daimyo for that lead to not really go anywhere.
