Volume 111 - Discussion Thread (March 4th, 2025)

Nah, Perospero would’ve been promoted if he was strong enough to be a commander. He’s not too old either given Katakuri is two years his junior.
Perospero isn't getting promoted
It's like saying Garp will he promoted if he was strong enough when we know he's that strong

Someone who rivaled Marco and is grouped with Dukes and Jack is strong enough to be SC

Pero wants captaincy, not SC role

And it doesn't really make him look better, because giving more awesome powers and feats in flashbacks or SBS can't erase his not so great performances against BB and Akainu.
Ace did well against BB
BB had one of the best portrayals in pre-ts, are people misremembering the vibes he had in pre-ts?

No one was solidly portrayed above fatty back then except WB when they fought. Immediately after that, BB looked like the biggest threat in Marineford after he got gura gura.

Jack just happened to be in area while a drunk kaido sent him on a suicide mission and it's not even the first time that Jack does this.

Compared to Cracker who sent with full intel of the situation even showed to be a major obstacle to Luffy. Just look at egghead where kizaru an admiral and the gorosei were sent to deal with Luffy not some random schmucks.
Kaido also didn't send Jack cause Luffy defeated doffy lol
And Jack was already on the scene when kaido shows up
We also didn't get Luffy vs Jack

It's different from Cracker's case

Ace isnt losing to Katakuri either.
:willight:Ace is losing
He can't beat haki masters who is skilled like katakuri or Yamato

Not our fault that Warlords are not that strong

Either Oda is the most predictable mangaka ever or he just sees cool shit on the internet and goes with it.
Remember this when someone asks him why about THAT character that was talking about rabbits and insects 20 years before the Gorosei made their move.

Agenda aside ultimately oda places the narrative above powerscaling. He thought “well it would be cool to Ace like Luffy beat a warlord” and then down the line thought “hey this guy is king of the lizards, Kaido is king of the beast, it would be cool if they’re were rivals turned allies”

I bet you he did not once thought this would make Ace look extremely strong or Kaido weaker than portrayed. He just thought narratively speaking it looks good.

He did well but was still clearly overpowered by Teach with him getting beat up and sent crashing each time Teach got his hands on him. Plus Oda had Van Augur say that Ace wasn't reliant on his df, which was the first case of Oda using the informed attribute trope with Ace, as we have never seen Ace show any fighting skill and ability independent of his df during that fight as he kept using his df against BB.

Ace has always been strong even shanks admitted. It's just that Blackbeard is him

Headcanon. You invent your own evidence. We know Perospero has high aspirations. We know Big Mom promotes based on strength.

That’s a bit nore controversial, Katakuri is crazy disrespected. Not sure Ace can take him at all

Ace beating a Kaido rival is a big deal, there’s no reason to think Hanafuda was washed like Moriah
Calling Ace's victim a Kaido's rival is NOT slander by the way. Words of god. (SBS volume 100)

:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked:

THE FUCK?! Why did I not know about this, lmfao

Kaido bros, Ace killing Kaido’s rival is worse than Kid and Law killing Kaido’s rival! @MonsterKaido @The DevilMaster

Not a damn day goes by where Kaido doesn’t look more and more like a fucking high tier

Yeah but I’m saying that having clash like that against BB wasn‘t a bad look since BB himself was a special character hyped by everybody — WB and Shanks included.
Haki also wasn’t a clear concept back then, it was all about dfs
