Part dramatic value, and part to show off Loki’s destructive power, perhaps.

I think the whirlpools have to do with a mechanism acquired on Lodestar needed to reach Laugh Tale and/or the underwater Ancient World. I believe Sunbell played a specific role on the Roger Pirates to do with that mechanism and will be at Lodestar.
