Smoughtown with a banger of a lore video as always.
He makes some really cool points about the whole Ancient Dragon vs Drake war sub plot in Elden Ring.
1. All of the ancient dragons in the game are virtually identical in terms of their moves and power sets. This is because the old ancient dragons are meant to represent order as they themselves were the order prior to the GO. This is why we see them forming lightning into weapons like swords and spears, they are taking chaos and assigning order to it. Conversely, the Drakes in the game just seem to take on the properties of their environment. This is why you have things like a rot Brake, a glintstone drake, a frost Drake, a Carian drake etc…because they are the opposite of their ancient kin and take on the properties of their environment instead of being the ones controlling to that environment.
2. The massive tornado of Drakes circling Farum Azula are essentially vultures waiting for the death of Placidusax. This is one of the many ways that Drakes are meant to be more beastial than the Ancient Dragons. The Ancients having four arms/legs isn’t just for show, their extra appendages allowed them to literally build Farum Azula. In ancient ER society, society was structured by life traits, and the higher classes in society were those who possessed advanced traits of life such as great size, more appendages, flight, strength, etc…it’s not hard to see why Dragons would rule such a society. Since the Drakes didn’t have arms/hands for building, they would have been viewed as lesser creatures compared to their ancient kin, which definitely played a factor in sparking the dragon civil war.
3. Bayle is like an inversion of Seath the Scaleless from Dark Souls. Seath was a scaleless albino dragon, viewed as inferior to the rest of the dragons because he had no scales which made him frail, and he was also physically weak and blind. Bayle by contrast is black dragon, also viewed as inferior to his ancient kin, except where Seath was weak and betrayed his kin, Bayle was overwhelmingly powerful, so much so that he could challenge Placidusax. The Jagged Peak is essentially a graveyard for all of the dragons and warriors who tried to take Bayle’s life since he fought Placidusax, Bayle has spent the entire time since before the Golden Order until now flying around mortally wounded and killing all of the dragons and dragon commuters who were sent to kill him. By Elden Ring he is essentially just a flying vessel of pure hate, this guy’s entire life is just pain and killing constantly lol. Bayle truly is the hardest character in ER.
There’s a lot of other interesting shit in this video as well but the TL;DR is don’t watch Vaati because Vaati is trash
