Well, the spoilers say he was going to attack her, but saw Collun getting hit regardless of the attack.

If he cut Sommers into many pieces, i believe he knows doing that is necessary for them to be restrained of using their powers? Meaning Gaban would need more attacks to do the same to Gunko which would give her time to stab Collun, and i don't even know how does Gunko knows Collun is Gaban's son tbh.
