So very true, my dear Padawan.
I don't think he's boring in the slightest - he's so laid back but cool at the same time. And what this guy said is very true: he literally made Luffy's character, which later influenced the tone of the manga. If Shanks was anything but what Luffy considers him to be, the whole manga is literally one big scam.
The moment that won me over indefinitely was when he said "it's just an arm".

I had a sleeve gastrectomy on Wdnesday. You know, to lose weight. I only post here in WG via my iPhone. 
I am OK. It’s just I can’t walk normally. Can’t sleep on a side. Can’t sit for long. When I get up from my bed an area in my stomach hurts me, but I take painkillers every 8 hours. Hopefully after a week something change.
