Common consensus in the community prior to this was that Gunko was unique and Imu could only posses her for some reason.

The reveal he can seemingly do it to at least every Gorosei is new info. Personally I think imu can posses whoever the hell they want. Does not have to be a Gorosei member or Gunko. But people did not expect Imu taking possession of Saturn or Garling.

I agree though, I already said that Garling’s minimum age is 30, Roger’s age at max imo. Even if we lowball it, that’s still a slanderable age for getting no-diffed though.

The slander is well deserved. What I am suggesting is, the Gorosei are at least top tiers in their prime even if they're not quite as good as the high top tiers. And no top-tier is loosing to another top-tier, even if it's Rocks, as easily as Garling did, which is why I am suggesting he wasn't close to his prime.

With Koby we know specifically he was fighting against character pre-TS luffy would've merked. And Silver Axe is a great example of what I mean Oda introduces him with comparison to Shiki, and thus transitive comparisons to Newgate and such as well. On the other hand, in multiple arcs no comparative statements with strong characters exist for Koby.

Sure, but even then there's still a clear gap in power between Kyo and the average nameless God Valley pirate, yet he still got decked in the chin by one of them.
I don't believe getting hurt by fodders means as much as you believe it does. Jinbe got hurt by a Gifter and nobody's saying he's below Commanders for that.
I get the sentiment of "Koby didn't fight anyone strong on screen yet so he doesn't really have any feats to gauge his strength with", but using him getting hit by fodders off screen is disingenuous. Even Zoro was a little bruised against Gifters. It means nothing about a real fight between those characters, as Kyo would obviously destroy the lesser pirates on God Valley. Oda mostly just does that to show they've been putting in work against the enemy.

honest in person here,

my idea ever since the gunko thing happened on elbaf, is that imu can possess ANYONE he grants his power to or domi reversi'es.

as such, i'm not the least surprised about imu descending here, still enjoying the heck of the chapter, xebec kaido newgate trio is beyond badass!
