and yet sweatgon let Ginny get raped by some disgusting slob for years. at least Garp punched the shit out of Saturnmu when he witnessed him brutalizing his men. sabo did more than him already

I slander Sabo a lot but lowkey he's pretty based ngl.

Man actually surpassed Dragon in fame in-universe.

Issue with Dragon with Ginny is similar to that of WB, Kaido and BM leaving GV last chapter, as in it could work but Oda didn't give it enough explanation, buildup and followup.

Like let's say that WG massively beefed up security near where Ginny was and Dragon knew about this. Then show him clearly telling this to Kuma and sorrowfully apologizing for not being able to sacrifice his men to save her.

Then IMO people would be understanding and Dragon would not look like such a bum.

I think that's probably what Oda had in mind while writing Kuma's fb but he didn't put the extra effort to showcase this so now people are like: " Wait, much weaker people than Dragon pulled this off, why doesn't he do it?!".

Garp is another case of a good guy in the wrong setting.


His main intent in the Marines is to protect the good people serving there.

Garp never actively participated in WG genocidal activity.

And haters who was saying he was protecting slaves from being rescued by Xebec just move on like nothing happened and find other reasons to hate him..


Face it. Not everyone will be like Dragon or Aokiji who carved out different paths to fullfil their own sense of justice.


There will always be reformists inside the system and These Same marines will be the one that establish order in OP world after WG is defeated.

I think he planned stuff like Ohara but I believe celestial dragons is something he made up during Sabaody to make clear Luffy is the good guy despite being a pirate. Koby wanting to join the marine, Smoker and all don't make much sense if CDs were always planned

I think this is a recurring issue in general due to Oda rushing things.

He sets these things up but doesn't put that extra 10% effort to make them believable.

So then we end up with these types of situations where fans have to come up with explanations for him.

It's the same philosophy as his writing for fights - draw the beginning, then skimp out and fast forward to the rest leaving readers scratching their heads.

It feels like he's trying serve the reader too many items on one plate basically.

I think he's an incredibly written complex and flawed character, he works for evil and he knows he works for evil but in order to keep some semblance of peace he keeps that information under wraps and protects the rank and file aka fodder npcs and now that garp knows about it there probably hasn't been a Human Hunt since god valley

This is a character that has a passion for justice and commits his life to saving civilians from day to day crime. What exactly is he supposed to do about the celestials on his own? The whole point of him not accepting admiral is so that he can further distance himself from celestial commands. Knowing this is the only faction of law enforcement in the world, Garp just has to live with the fact that this is the celestials world and all he can do is continue to be a hero and setting an example so he can raise more heroes for the future. Not everyone can be like Dragon devoting his life to build an army to take down the celestials but the problem is they just have no clue what they’re up against because all the fighters are immortal, hence the need for Joyboy to pop up and liberate everyone, Garp simply took the safest and most realistic route to change or at least trying to put some good out into the world.

That demon also attacked his men for no reason.
I'm not sure Dragon is aware of this, for example.

My interpretations it that Garp is essentially looking out for the average marine, who is a good person as the story has explicitly told us. Effectively if an elder or HK wants to harm marine soldiers they now have to consider that they might have to deal with a response from a PK level character like Garp. He is effectively a nuke the navy has pointed at the government.

The issue is that we should have seen way more confrontations between Garp and CDs/HKs/Elders in the story if this was the case. Outside of Garp talking poorly about CDs on two occasions, the deterrent narrative wasn't really presented in the story until God Valley.

Probably because Oda came up with it on the spot lmao
