That isn't really a great comparison. Roger and WB fought to a standstill and were regarded as equals.

Garp and Sengoku have never been called equals and Sengoku has no feats comparable to Garp.

I think Sengoku is close to Garp in strength, but they are NOT portrayed as equals. Ever.

Oda´s intention when he had WB name drop, Roger, Garp and Sengoku is pretty clear. And him having GArp and Sengoku equally team up against Shiki, neither doing any better then the other.

We don´t really have to obsess over the details here, tbh....

Fair enough. Big Mom is especially bad because she got to go all out and still looked ass. But Sengoku has been hiding behind the old label yet his feats and prowess compared to the other old legends have been dogshit just like Big Mom. But it's true he atleast didn't get to go all out but If you read between the lines you'll see Sengoku and Big Mom are very similar in how they leech off of characters greater than them, I ask myself would Oda make any Admiral quit after failing to stop pre timeskip Luffy? It's really the most pathetic display out of any Marine we've seen. Eating crackers can only carry him so far.

I don’t even want to imagine the absurd things Nika must have done in the past for the World Government to go as far as changing the name of the Devil Fruit and spending their entire lives searching for it — a Devil Fruit that was basically stolen.

After we learned how terrifying he was to the World Government, the same guys who were once terrified of him were seriously wondering if it would be worth upsetting Kaidou just to bring Nika back. Because Kaidou… he’s the guy.

I really dont think he just ragequit after failing to stop preskip condom lol.

Likely cuz the events of the war itself and the aftermath, and to signal the end of the old era and the beginning of Akainu's era.

And also, it wasnt just Sengoku... Garp stopped being an active Marine too.

Zoro really cursed Rayleigh. Pre timeskip Rayleigh had no link to Zoro in Oda's mind. He just saw Ray as Goofy's sensei so he treated him with utmost respect and glaze like any shonen. But then he brought Gaban into the story and started associating Rayleigh with that bum Zoro...I knew Ray was doomed when I saw that.

But his sensei portrayal still came in clutch narrative wise as he did secure the GV main prize, he would never give Zoro those honours. That would 100% be a role Luffy plays in a current arc.

I don´t really think his intention was that Luffy was too much of a problem, just that Sengoku wanted to shift the marines focus on WB. Luffy and Ace could easily have been dealt with eventually, but WB´s fruit could cause a lot of casualties. Even as much as Sakazuki looked better then him at MF, Sakazuki is almost as much of a bitch as fleet admiral(he doesn´t sweat, but he rages a lot). Hell, for all that you can shit on him for that moment, once Blackbeard starts talking shit, Sengoku´s the first one to step up and attempt to fight his entire crew before getting help from Garp. Sengoku is also pretty consistent through the war that if he thinks Garp steps out of line, he will deal with it. He basically does that by putting Garp on the ground, though obviously that´s not a fair confrontation.

Think about it... we could have had the real Dark King/Luffy sensei Rayleigh, equal of Roger, with both IDCoA & FS... the powerups Luffy got.

Instead we got a bastardized, nonchalant womaniser Zoro sharing a wings dynamic with a bastardized Sanjino.
