During the incident, we see Shanks(with bandage) aiming for Fisher's neck collar and thus freeing him, with Fisher removing his bandage during the moment, and his eye bleeding(so fresh injury)

And when you add Shamrock's dialog later about it being more wise for Shanks to wait for his injury to heal, it's pretty clear Blackbeard scarred him during that incident

But the question is, what was Blackbeard doing there

Men Shanks and Teach given their a hard chess game with mindblow plot/insane mindgame and now look at the rest cast of One Piece...

The issue is I wanted a morally complex character that acts a foil for Luffy. Instead I got two characters essentially each the opposing extremes.

If Luffy fights Shamrock Ill be happy since theres catharsis in that, but it will still suck that Oda couldnt make Shanks more complicated than that.

A perfectly good character would have never have joined the Holy Knights.

Saint Shanks is an evil honorless coward exactly as I predicted. This is the best thing Oda could have done to him.
