Possibly but we didn't see her flashback, we still dunno why Kaido refers to her as "son", there could be some more reasons Oda choose to go that way

the fact that black maria dont want to capture yamato might indicated 3 things.
1. she really doesnt care about her.
2. she is weaker than yamato
3. or she is the only one trying to comfort her for the past few years.

Think of it like Sanji vs. Absalom or Zoro vs. Ryuuma. At least with Ryuuma, Zoro was presented with a pretty intense challenge before winning with no damage. Then they both went on to get their asses kicked by Oars and help win in the end.

I'd love it if this happened and some strawhats went to help fight BM while others Kaido. Would be pretty cool in the end. I'd love it if Luffy and Kid got the final blows on both Yonko.

since luffy kid and law portrayed to fight against kaido directly, oda should make them as fresh as possible before fighting against Kaido.
