It´s a pretty relevant argument, since zoans have much better physical strength and recovery rates then Usopp can deal with. It´s disingenous to even act like regen is the problem here, the problem is that Usopp would realistically get low diffed.

1. Because Killingham is one of the strongest characters on the governments side, which Usopp never fights. Strawhat matchups have always been consistent with the stronger strawhats fighting stronger opponents.
2. Because Oda isn´t going to have the first strawhat to defeat a Gods Knight to be Usopp(or second) before setting them up as future fights for Strawhats and other characters.
3. The Perona joke doesn´t even make sense here and would just be redundant. The kids on the island are also cowards, so unlike always being ¨negative¨ this isn´t unique to Usopp
4. This isn´t meaningful character development if it´s just repeating the same bit
5. It´s obviously not going to happen.

Oda has a massive bias for good guy characters, and is willing to screw over the image of villains. This even applied to someone like Kaido, becoming an Oden victim in the Wano flashback. It gets even worse when a villain isn´t going to fight Luffy, at that point Oda cares very little about protecting their hype. Regardless, the pirates on GV who beat the HK and later on are still some of the strongest of all time, Rocks, Rayleigh, Roger/Gaban etc. Very few among our main cast will ever be on that level.

It's not like Killingham didn't get any hype: he beat the school principal and soloed most of Elbaf with his monsters.Same goes for Sommers: he got hype from defeating Saul (even after being tossed around as a hypetool) so I'd say Oda gave them justice before facing the SH. For GV, I'd understand if the HK at least put up a real fight against Rocks, Rayleigh, or the others. But they got straight-up neg diffed not mid diff, not low diff, but straightup neg diff lol even their supreme commander looked like fodder

The difference is that I assume Usopp would defeat a blackbeard pirate the same time the rest of them go down. Usopp beating Killingham now would be like if Usopp beat Van Aguar in Egghead, before the rest of the crew had their time to be the arc fights. Or similarly, it would be like if Usopp beat Van Aguar before we saw Luffy beat commanders in WCI, and Zoro/Sanji in Wano. The stronger characters get their chances first, and the weaker characters later on. Similarly, Usopp beating a HK is ¨too early¨ because that is like an endgame Usopp achievement, very unlikely he would ever beat someone stronger then Killingham

I don't think that's a fair comparison. We literally saw the main SH clash directly with the Gorosei even Franky got a solid shot on one, and we won't even mention Bonney's involvement. If Oda made the Gorosei (who are clearly a whole level above the HK accessible enough for most SH to fight or contribute against, I don't see why it would be an issue for Usopp to beat a HK or at least play a major role in taking one down. Plus, it's not like Usopp would be the only facing a hk in this arc anyway. If calling Usopp's combat growth or defeating a strong opponent in Elbaf "too early" then there's literally no point in him doing it later. Elbaf is the arc everyone has hyped forever as his big development moment—the land of warriors where he's supposed to finally become a true brave warrior of the sea. If he doesn't accomplish real progress here, he'll basically be dead weight for the rest of the story

He´s probably going to have to get help/a powerup, or just send him into the ocean(?). I myself have no idea how it´s going to workout, though. It´s just more likely that someone like Sanji could figure it out, since for someone like Usopp, the issue isn´t even just regen, it´s dealing with an awakened mythical zoan in general. Even getting help wouldn´t change the fact that he likely couldn´t deal with Killingham in a 1v1.

I’d say the same about Franky vs Sasaki. Franky can’t even use haki, yet Oda let him beat an ancient zoan combatant who has haki and uses a sword just by targeting Sasaki’s belly as his weak point lol. All I’m saying is: Killingham vs. Usopp would be a perfect chance for Usopp to unlock haki or get a real powerup, the same way Sanji needs one against Sommers

Wadatsumi matchup was basically a 1v2 against Jinbe and Sanji with Sanji landing the final blow

There´s some nuance here, Sommers wasn´t really on guard for Rayleigh attacking him, and ultimately, Garling was probably on the younger side when he lost to Rocks. It´s a pretty bad look ofc, but it would apply to a lot of characters who ended up against the top pirates at GV. Someone like Doflamingo, and even like Katakuri wouldn´t necessarily do much better(inb4 future sight, you know what I mean). It doesn´t change the fact that those characters remain above most of our cast, except for Luffy.

Honestly, I feel like you´re making my argument for me by bringing up the Gorosei? None of the strawhats were allowed to defeat them, or even really have proper arc fights with them, except for Luffy. Zoro/Sanji had to run away from them, forget about the weaker SHP. Getting your hits in on regen merchants is kind of irrelevant, what I´m talking about is a proper arc fight

I don´t find this argument very convincing tbh. We´ve had a couple other arcs where the specific island is supposed to be really important for a particular strawhat, but that isn´t usually something Oda ends up focusing on too much, besides a few references here and there. He has a broader plot focused on the government that is more relevant, I guess.
