Oda has clearly showed the parallels between Marco and King:
- BM asking King to join her crew much like Shanks and Marco
- Within the same chapter the two Yonkus having a similar clash.
- Their devil fruits give the same vibes
- King and Marco pushing the BM pirates like team rocket
I think Oda is implying that King is possibly as strong as Marco.
One could make an argument that Marco vs King will be the match up. I am not sure because Kaido's second in command happens to be a swordsman. In the series' major arcs, Zoro tends to fight the right hand man or the swordsman of the group and occasionally both.
What I am saying is that King will undoubtedly be Zoro's greatest challenge if that were to happen.
