If Luffy performs against Imu without explanation on why this version of G5 would be stronger (all the food he ate?), the writing simply wouldn't work.
The explanation will be as simple as he believes the food will make him that much stronger and it will.

Just a reminder, Luffy is gonna struggle for the win, so it's not like him defeating IMU means it will be easy.

I still believe the arc ends with both Loki and Luffy defeating IMU together. That is the ideal ending in this scenario.

Even the pizza scene , he sneaked on Kizaru from behind to catch him and even then Saturn came back in an instant.
Also even coping about Luffy not using COC or whatever doesn't work; Imu's haki is way superior to the likes of DR Xebec while Luffy's is ~ Kaido's. Luffy is suffocating just from feeling Imu burst from the distance lol
If Oda's writing has any kind of consistency, Luffy will get brutally dominated.

Oda should have made Luffy much stronger than PK tier post wano. He literally awakened god DF. But oda's habit of keeping luffy as underdog has backfired imo.

Well not sure about Imu losing but yeah a 2 vs 1 is what I believe would work. A 2 vs 1 is way different from a 1 vs 1. Luffy doesn't need to be anywhere near a strong as Imu at the beginning to stay in the fight, and by the end of it he can have grow significantly. Maybe he'll learn more about his fruit from Loki or Imu and finally came to exploit it to its full potential

Fellas stop setting up yourself for disappointment. Oda's doesn't stick to a strict consistency when it comes to powerlevels. And this isn't even a knock to his writing lol.

It was this way during pretimeskip too. One of the biggest examples being Ennies Lobby. They went from jobbing to Blueno to surpassing his powerlevel due of their resolve to save Robin. Crocodile got stronger in Marineford etc.

Also, Luffy's Haki is stronger than Kaido's.

That's what I'm waiting on. For now as Luffy is, he isn't beating him 1v1. But I'm expecting a better performance. Than vs Kaido and Kizaru.

Making him stronger than PK tier is pushing him to God Tier. A bit too early for that if you actually want tension. There's barely any now that Luffy is on the same level as Admirals and Emperors lol.

It's seems obvious to me, Oda is using the drawback to compensate for how strong Luffy is now

Nah oda has created gap between Yonko/PK tier characters and god tier characters absurdly big. Imu's pet DR xebec was dominating Roger and garp in 2v1 for example and real imu is confirmed much above that.

It would have made more sense for luffy to enter god tier post wano than him jumping huge tiers of power like that.

I see your point. It seems this jarring considering IMU is stronger than we anticipated. But it doesn't bother me much personally because Luffy has always jumped huge tiers of power with his gears.

He did it with Gear 3 and 2 Pre timeskip.

Post timeskip, he jumped huge tiers of power with G4. Going from struggling with commander tier pirates to overwhelming them with that power (Oda had to give them weird gimmicks to keep Luffy from whooping them early. He deadass could have beat Katakuri the first time he lost his CoO with a Kong Organ, but Luffy needed to learn FS lol.)

Yes by showing new gears. Not in base. If Luffy shows new powers or much stronger moves or different stronger G5 mode then it's fine.

Who else if not Luffy ?

His devil fruit is in a way broken and has form of reality warping powers . He is restricted only by his imagination as said, but Luffy is still not aware of that , he is not even aware he is Nika.

Based on everything shown and how he performed against Kizaru , Kaido , Warcury he still needs another power-up to be able to get a win against Imu. That power - up can simply be haki bloom , new gear or simple realisation of true extent of his devil fruit reality warping powers.

Luffy already being there without some power-up does not make sense because Oda did poor job in manga to showcase that, at least for now.

The end result is Kizaru deciding to take a break to mourn Vegapunk and Saturn returning with his fellow Elders
Tell me at what point in his fight against Kizaru and Saturn was Luffy on the losing end? Cuz I don’t think there was a single moment where Luffy was pushed. We’re talking 2v1 which is ridiculous feat in itself. Granted it was a short fight but that was consistent through out luffy’s fights on Egghead.
