That they're equals by design is obvious to anyone that doesn't make Zoro's superiority a part of their worldview.
The equals narrative benefits Zoro more than it has ever benefitted Sanji.
Sanji has always had superior portrayal against opponents of equal, greater and comparable calibre and status. His signature wins are especially more dominant despite having some kind of nerf in all of them.
Thriller Bark has basically been erased from Zorotard's memories for obvious reasons.
Moriah put Zoro's shadow in the body of a legendary samurai and Sanji's shadow in a weak body?

Anyone who talks up Zoro remembers Thriller Bark because proportionately, Ryuma to Oars to Kuma is the most impressive gauntlet in the series. Sanji is the guy who generally loses before the end of a gauntlet (Pearl before Gin, Khalifa before Jabura, Viola before Dofy, everyone at WCI, Gifters before Queen).

This is not even a one piece thing
