These flashback was pretty much needed but Oda didn't add them back then.

Zoro and Sanji were literally training lol.

Zoro were repeatedly using his sword on Sommers and testing every possible way to understand his CoC. Sommers isn't a threat to him and just a training dummy.

Same to Sanji, keep getting wreck until his enlightment.

OPLA was a massive success, probably more so than Shueisha could have anticipated. Now that the brand is doing so well internationally they almost no incentive to tell Oda to get a move on with the plot.
