G4 is what puts him on this level, not his base. YC are always strong, because they are not increasing their strength with limited power ups like Luffy does - their bodies are just that strong. If Luffy wants to show the same dominance like other YC's he has to use G4.

He is using regular Gear 4 on people. He is not using Advanced Armament Haki in base like he did against Yamato, where he caused a huge explosiom leaving damage similar to Gear 3 in its place.
