Yes but he is too lethal to go against Kaido right away or in a situation where he can land clean hits.
Kaido needs to be taking damage and if it comes from Zoro, it's over, unless Oda pulls some tekkai-like thing with CoA.
That means that Kaido will either still have a club when he clashes with Zoro or Zoro will join the fight at the end.

Well the thing is Luffy loses power if he tries to be a swordsman, there's a reason for this.
The reason is he is not one.
If Zoro tried to replicate a different fighting style of course he would turn weaker, it's just natural.
Nightmare was an exceptional case I guess, because gears were not important once Luffy had unlocked it.

Yes, Zoro is the man for the job.
However, from a storytelling perspective, it still needs to be a hard fight so Zoro and Kaido will either face off in situations benefiting Kaido or Zoro will face him at the very end. The situation benefiting Kaido is 1vs1 where he dominates and if he has the club to block the swords.
If the Supernovas gang up on him and Zoro has the opportunity to land a clean slice, that should be the end of Kaido so I guess Oda will somehow avoid that either by making Zoro join later, which means King will keep him busy until then, or Kaido will be blocking Zoro while other Supernovas are landing clean hits since they do less damage than Zoro.
