Sanji was ready to do the same in Thriller Bark, but Zoro cheap-shotted him from behind. No one asked Zoro to do that.

Sanji can do whatever Zoro can do. That's the whole purpose of Sanji vs Zoro rivalry, not making Zoro unique. Luffy has 2 right-hands, and now he has Jinbe too.

Luffy literally ate Buggy's attack with his mouth before this when Buggy tried to kill him, Zoro did nothing to stop Buggy's attack because he was losing to Buggy, he had no hope to beat Buggy, Luffy was capable of protecting himself even in that cage against Buggy.
