I don't know if anyone said this before, but maybe Kaido's devil fruit is a fish fish fruit model Koi fish. In Japan there is a mythology says that if the koi fish swims up the waterfall and can reach the top or the water source, the koi fish will turn into dragons. maybe Oda use this story for reference, since Wano itself is above the waterfall.

Yes, probably Koi fish. There is a legend about the dragon in the Japanese myth of koi fish. If the koi fish dies, it suddenly turns into a dragon. So maybe that's why Kaido owes Big Mom...
