By working for them and fighting for them he was keeping his captain alive. He failed to kill Otoko and he was captured by the Beast Pirates and brought to the prison to be executed. Do you see and understand the type of effect that who have on him? He was the only person left keeping his captain alive and he failed. Now he has to face his captain and be executed together with him. His dreams and captain dreams are now gone. That could definitely make him break down and start crying. That's why he was crying.

Heavily nerf? No, his fighting style never changed. The scythes gave him more power and a longer reach. Zoro has never showed to have any training with it and he put it to good use quick.

How does Kidd's power even interact with Swordsmen?
I don't see Zoro who got a double KO against his mentally destroyed subordinate who wasn't using his proper weapons beating Kidd.
The portrayal just isn't there, the Supernova Power Trio is Luffy/Kidd/Law. Zoro/Killer are the subordinate supernova duo.
