Before ending Pika, Zoro took the time to first think about the best and effective approach to beat him and to deal with the rubble that would crumble on the royal plateau.
When Apoo knocked out Luffy, Zoro analyzed the situation and then decided to retreat to avoid unnecessary confrontations in order to preserve himself (and Luffy) as much as possible before facing Kaido ... so, he DIDN'T GO STRAIGHTFOWARD to fight Apoo and the Gifters (yet haters slander him because of it

He's shown to been handy in stituations like the Ennis Lobbies gates and his Mr Prince moment back in Alabasta. He does has good wits.
But do tell me where is this shown in his battles? He's also a cqc fighter who wins by kicking his opponents into submission. No strategy there, just brute strength.
And unfortunately his legs gets chopped off here. He's far weaker then Zoro.
