-Goku was with krillin, Yamcha fellow human VS picollo..
-Then was with picollo as namekian VS saiyan..
-Now due to plot continued with "saiyan vs gods in the universe", the character strength progress is goku with vegeta..
--> Vegeta was set as goku saiyan rival as background since beginning too

-Naruto was with shikamaru, ino, etc fellow genin VS gaara..
-then was with bee & gara fellow jinchuriki VS madara..
-Now due to plot continued with "otsusuki powers", the characters strength progress is naruto with sasuke..
--> sasuke was set as naruto frenemy rival as background since beginning too

Same with one piece :
-Luffy was with zoro sanji as monster trio, in pre-skip VS CP9..
-then luffy was with jinbe the sichibukai in prison & marineford war before time skip VS admirals & shichibukai..
-Now due to plot continued with "old era yonko vs new era supernova", the characters strength progress is luffy with zoro and his rival competition kid with killer..
--> zoro was set as luffy 1st crew and commander (replicating gol d roger & Rayleigh) as background since beginning too

The above should give explanation for the plot creators, for current characters progress..

They did make cool characters (shikamaru, gara, picollo, gohan, sanji, jinbe etc) that attract fans.. But it will be hard if all fan favourite characters will be put as main hero / 2nd hero, in the plot all the time..

Beside that, considering the arc..
- Dressrossa arc was for law
- big mom arc was for sanji (no zoro for years, for fans in real life manga anime) :
Sanji was have his backstory as vinsmoke son, sanji be the main plot reason to start war with yonko level (at that time after dressrossa luffy was only fight shichibukai level max 500m berries) , and sanji get upgraded with vinsmoke gear..
- wano arc will be for zoro, isn't oda also has mention this each arc plotline..

You know, I'd even go as far as give them the benefit of the doubt of there being a sliver of a chance back when it was argued Kaido was an actual Dragon, with some kind of Hito Hito no mi devil fruit because killing an animal is one thing. But now that we know for a fact he is Human, with a Devil Fruit, there is zero chance of it happening.

I don't know man. I'm fairly certain Oda plans on spoiling the story he's spent 20 years working on through editor statements in One Piece Magazine. Going to need a little bit more convincing here that Zoro won't fight Kaido.

Alright, so it's time to put an end to all this confusion going around regarding the whole "The Tiger vs The Dragon" theme that is going on in Wano, regarding Kaido. All people seem to acknowledge is that there is a Tiger vs Dragon theme, without doing so much as taking a second to do any type of research into the lore and symbology behind it.

I see a lot of "Zoro's animal is the Tiger, so therefore Zoro is the one who represents the Tiger in the fight against Kaido." This is 100 percent wrong. Zoro's spirit animal is represented by the Tiger. The Tiger as a spirit animal symbolizes strength and courage. This fits Zoro to the tee. Just like Luffy's spirit animal of the Monkey, which represents good Luck, and a playful and lighthearted nature fits him to a tee. But that's as far as their spirit animals go.

In the actual lore and symbolism behind the Chinese Mythology of the "Tiger vs. the Dragon", Zoro is nothing like the Tiger. In fact, Zoro's personality would be more akin to being a representation of the Dragon in this scenario, with Luffy's personality being more akin to the Tiger.

Those who are represented by the Dragon will usually be wise, tempered, patient, humble, plucky, and/or any other traits usually seen as "laid-back". While those who are represented by the Tiger will usually be passionate, driven, enthusiastic, wild, and/or other traits seen as "Hot Blooded".

It is also to be noted that the Tiger and the Dragon are seen to be complete polar opposites, while also at the same time they are similar. As you can see, the Mythology behind the Tiger vs the Dragon is the exact portrayal of Luffy and Kaido.

Because the Tiger and the Dragon have nothing to do with each other in regards to Spirit animals. They are connected in Chinese Mythology. Trying to use the fact that Zoro's spirit animal is a Tiger to force him into the narrative against fighting Kaido, does not work.

The Mythological Symbolism of the Tiger vs the Dragon, The Yin and the Yang, the polar opposites yet similar. The King of Earth vs the King of Heavens/Sky. The emotional vs the level headed. There is nothing that connects a confrontation between Zoro and Kaido in this manner.

All I see is "Zoro's animal is the Tiger, so that's his role in the battle against Kaido." That's completely ignoring the Symbolism of the actual portrayal of the The Tiger vs Dragon in Mythology.

Yep, because you got to love Zoro. That emotionally driven, highly enthusiastic, sporadic, never know what he's going to do next, firecracker that he is. Dude acts so much like characters like Luffy, Naruto, Natsu, etc... it's insane.

Yeah, sorry I have a hard time believing Oda is doing all this build up with Zoro and Orochi, and zero build up to a confrontation with Kaido, only to have Zoro given a reason to ignore Orochi and go after Kaido after almost 80 chapters of Wano.

You guys are completely ignoring everything Zoro has stated, and the connection between of the Kozuki Clan and the Kurozumi Clan, all because Kaido is the cooler dragon. Orochi has regenerating heads. That in and of itself can give Zoro a challenge, as was the same with the Pica fight. His issue wasn't that he couldn't cut the Golem, his issue was that he couldn't locate Pica at first. It seems like Oda is past the point of giving Zoro challenges of what he can cut that is hard, and more so moving into the direction of what he can cut that is tricky, and Orochi is the perfect candidate for that with his ability to regenerate his heads.

You might want to lower your expectations a bit, otherwise the disappointment is going to crush your entire soul when it turns out Zoro has to team up with Killer just to take down King.
