I don't see a reason to generalize cops and spread hate against them. I know very well some of, or a lot of, them are horrible people, but that should never fall on the shoulders of every cop.
oh boi..
It's really ... really difficult for me to explain something that I know people can't understand unless we have a much bigger talk about it. To understand why we say "ACAB", you must first understand an entire branch of bullet points about activism, materialism and social sciences.
At the moment you are thinking with your idealist mind, to make you a metaphor, imagine than what you see of my rethoric is a sun (bright and all.
No ego I swear, I was looking at my pp and it's the first thing that popped into my mind), and what you are doing at the moment, is looking straight at it for an eclipse (my actual point) with your regular glasses.
By defaut, the only thing that you can say to me if I ask you to look at it, is "you are crazy, that will burn me" and you would be right. If you look at my argumentation without the proper tools to understand it, you will burn your brain and probably end up a radical conservative (it happens often).
But what I'm asking you is different. I'm asking you to search for a new type of glasses. A pair that will make you look at the sun without danger. That way, you will be able to see the actual moon of my words. The eclipse that is currently invisible to you and many many more people on this forum including some leftists here.
This pair of glasses is called :
historical materialism. It's philosophical materialism, but applied to the social and political world through the spectre of
social sciences.
When you will put those glasses: You won't see the world the same way ever again. You will see the structures, the systems, the relationships of powers.
Through their lens, you won't see cops as individualized people, I'm not targetting cops as people, I'm sure a lot of them are nice people, I'm targetting the Police as an institution. An institution that has two main social function:
- To repress anything that enters in contradiction with the interest of the power
- To protect the power itself as the last line of defense.
When we say ACAB, or when we say "men are trash", or when we say "all psychiatrist are trash", we are not targetting people, but systems and institutions. We alert on the fact that those system will create -
with the people who work in them - behaviors that will perpetuates oppressions and domination and exploitations.
No matter how hard one tries to resist,
the system will shape them in the form of the interest of the power. This is what systemic domination means.
Patriarchy shapes men into oppressors, Capitalism shapes rich people into exploiters, ableism shapes institutions into eugenist agencies. Colonialism shapes powerful nation into genociders..
Again from Marx himself: It is not consciousness that determines life, but life that determines consciousness.
