Controversial Would Wano have been a better arc if Oden,Orochi, the scabbards and Yamato just did not exist ?

Have all the characters written better, such as Yamato, who is not an Oden fangirl but a woman hardened as a warrior by Kaido, yet hates him. She views men as inferior because she cannot be beaten and took every guy's horse who dared to challenge her. Until she meet Luffy and lost to him in a hard fought duel. Which they becomes friends afterwards and wants to take him.

1. Orochi is actually a good villain, the problem for me is that as a shogun with mythical zoan, in a land that had been hyped for so long, he should be a power house with at least commander level strength (the stronger the better). But what we got is a dissapointing Spandam 2.0

2. As for Oden, probably it's better for him to actually join force with Hyogoro and fought against Kaido and Orochi (the strong version) and still losing (with or without dirty tricks from the opponent side) instead of being stupid and end up dancing naked.

3. Yamato is okay but remove the Oden gag please.

4. Remove half of the scabbard thus making room for the BMP to have more screen time and actually joined the wear instead of offscreened fight against the WG force.

Wano doesn't really work if you remove all of those characters entirely.

What I would say is that you could easily combine a couple characters and that gets rid of some chattel.

1) Just give Kaido the backstory of Orochi. Make Kaido a Kurozumi that was persecuted during his childhood, fled Wano, fought in wars, came back and made everyone in Wano pay.

2) Combine some of the Scabbards. Nine is too many and a few of them like Shutenmaru are pretty one note.

3) I've actually got nothing for Yamato, she actually is a pretty pointless character.

Well each to their own, Oda dropped the ball on Yamato

She wasn’t. She was a princess that Kaido planned to use as a puppet shogun.
Yes she was, or she would of been weak and useless like Hiyori...

From what I've read there was going to be only four Scabbards originally, but ofc Oda couldn't stop adding characters to Wano.
Funnily enough, 4 Scabbards is exactly what I have recommended previously.
1) About 1/2 of the Scabbards. There only really needs to be four or five, certainly not nine. A lot of them could be rolled into each other.

One mink Duke (Neko or Inu).
One traitor character (Kanjuro or rewrite a different character).
One Scabbard left behind 20 years ago (Denjiro).
One bodyguard sent to future with Momo (Kinemon).

2) The Big Mom Pirates. They just do not need to be here at all. Only Perospero and Linlin got to do anything, the others kept getting stalled by a waterfall. Perospero got gubbed by Neko which was weird since there wasn't any connection between those two. Meanwhile, Linlin just got consistently humiliated in ridiculous ways (e.g. waterfall and amnesia plot).

3) CP0 again just don't need to be here. There doesn't even need to be one to inform the World Government of what is going on since X Drake is there.

4) The Yakuza bosses did literally nothing. They might as well have not existed.

5) Some Supernovas. Hawkins and Apoo did sod all. Apoo dicked around and Hawkins just died a pathetic death.

6) The Numbers are just overgrown fodder.

8) Urashima the sumo wrestler, just.... Why was panel time even dedicated to this lump of lard?

9) Yamato. All she did was either stall a character or run up staircases. That is it.

10) Tama is technically useful but Toko's character could be combined with her's.
Oda isn't incompetent. Far from it but he is self indulgent and that results in him increasing his own workload. He makes far too many unnecessary characters and this leads to a bloated script that forces Oda to scrabble to find things for these extra characters to do. The easiest way to get rid of an unnecessary character is to kill them off but Oda is rather hesitant to do that so once he has created them, he is usually stuck with them.

There wasn't a need for 9 Scabbards. They could have been cut down to 4 or 5, either remove some or combine others. Who here would be legitimately sad about the likes of Shutenmaru being removed out of the story? Just have Denjiro be the guy secretly leading the bandits on the side in addition to his already existing role. It didn't need Shutenmaru to exist.

The 11 Supernovas being nearly all Captains is another example of Oda creating unnecessary work for himself. Eight additional captains that all need their own supporting cast could have been cut down again to just 4 or 5 crews. Just make the likes of Hawkins or Apoo high ranking crew mates to actually important Supernovas like Law.

Oda is his own worst enemy when it comes to workload and pacing. The man loves being creative but just because you could create something, doesn't mean you should create it.
