Ozai's a great villain, every act of terror in Books 1 & 2 are supposed to be seen as an extension of him. That's why he's veiled.

Azula and Ozai don't intersect much in a villain regard, as Azula almost becomes a personal nemesis to Zuko in Book 3 when they share the same screen time.

Book 2 is worse, all the lessons she learns in book 1—like leaning on Tenzin's wisdom instead of fighting him, being less hot headed, accepting responsibility for her own actions—is out the door.

She betrays her dad because her uncle accused him of a crime from 30 years ago, that she could have no way of verifying. The Evil Avatar plotline is underbaked and resolved in 1 book, which IMO sets it up for disaster. You need to work on that, you can't set up an evil counterpart to the focal figure in the show and then wash your hands of them in the span of 5 episodes.

I saw in some interviews how, if they had gotten a book 4, we'd have seen a redemption arc for Azula. Similar to the comics where they search for Zuko & Azula's mother but probably more definitive.

I'd highly recommend them, in this order;

1. The Promise [X]
2. The Search [X]
3. Smoke and Shadow [X]

I read a Toph & Aang focused comic and it was pretty mid, so I haven't read any others that aren't heavily Zuko centric.
