Bro, it's not ambiguous. Hyogoro explained it clearly:

Hardening is the basic level, not an advanced one. Sanji doesn't have the blackening effect to highlight his CoA because he wears black clothes most of the time, so it's impractical. Same with Kaido, who relied on his jet black kanabo. It's just an artistic choice.

yeah, for sure, mind you that to this date there is no clear panel of Sanji using black CoA hardening, you can zoom in on some pages to argue for it, but it’s still ambiguous

there was never any emphasis like for like when Luffy showed it in FI or Zoro in Dressrosa

He still has Armament Haki. Not all Haki is visible, Tashigi for example cut Monet with her sword yet her sword wasn't blackened.

Before Wano hardening was a big(ger) deal. All strong haki users displayed it and Sanji was left out of this not particularly special group for no reason. Probably just to feed the endless Sanji vs Zoro debate with the CoO/CoA specialist categories. Then Luffy got advanced everything and he didn't care anymore

Sanji always fights with some kind of nerf, or is nerfed previously

I can see Sanji's ideals being mocked by Killingham, that will probably have a role in his CoC awakening

The only thing that's got me worried is that Sanji wont be able to deal with Zaza and I would hate if it was another Black Maria moment.

We could see a situation where Sanji is backed into a corner because he can’t bring himself to destroy ZaZa, but if he doesn’t, the children will be lost. Maybe we have Nami show up, trying to help the kids, but she’s defeated and is on the verge of being killed by ZaZa. That desperation could push him to unlock COC/POL, allowing him to deal with Killingham, causing ZaZa to disappear. I hope there is more to it than that, but Oda likes to resolve these things quickly.
