Controversial this scene ruined Zoro.

I wonder how Oda will set up Zoro vs Mihawk.
I want it to feel like a high-stakes deathmatch rather than just master and student having a duel.
Now that Zoro and Mihawk become so closer with each other, it feels weird.
Mihawk does not feel like an antagonist to me like Nusjuro or Shiryu are.

Nah. This scene is pure character development. He set his pride aside to help his captain.

If anything, every scene after this one ruined Zoro, as he went from this genuine character, able to cry and beg, to a stoic one-liner machine.
Yeah, this scene helped give Zoro depth and development. However, he's been flanderized since, with him only serving as a badass fighter without any real development. Part of why Wano was trash was that it was by far the greatest opportunity to develop Zoro further and give him more depth back, and yet Oda, once more, squandered that opportunity.

That Zoro never went to Ryuma's grave, despite having stated his desire to do so, is the symbol of Zoro's wasted Wano potential.

Baroque Works ruined Zoro. I had a gut feeling about his drop in screen time after Alabasta and sure enough, the first five polls tell the story. He got way too popular for Oda's comfort and even if the gap between him and Luffy grows big enough to throw a whole other character in second, Oda is not willing to take the chance.

It turns Zoro from a cool character into an edgelord who does dumb things under the guise of being cool and suffers zero consequences.
Baroque Works ruined Zoro.

the scene where Zoro bows to Mihawk is what ruined his character.

Wano also could have been the opportunity for Zoro to learn more about the great blades, how they were forged, their history and power, and to get a better understanding of his own blades. It could also have been an opportunity to revisit his relations with Kuina and Tashigi upon learning about his family and how Kuina's family came from Wano. Even his feud with King could have been more personal and ideological.
