Easy to explain - Oda chose to do impossible thing for the sake of hype and this is not the first time he did it.
Sommers cannot overpower Dragon Damnation, yet Oda chose to do it. Why? To hype up Sommers.
And then Sommers cannot overpower an attack way weaker than DD...
The same thing with Zoro's Oni Giri drawing a lot of King's blood and yet, it is not possible...
I dare add on top of it - Imu's tail also cannot block Zoro's KoH Oni Giri as it did.

I think that when Oda doesn’t really know how to end a sequence (either because he’s undecided about which path to take, or because he hasn’t had time to think it through), he relies on his two best friends since the timeskip: “hype and vibe.” That leads to this kind of situation that doesn’t make much sense in hindsight. And I think this phenomenon has been happening more and more often since Wano.
You can really feel that some plotlines are last-minute additions, with no real narrative structure set in place or clearly defined. But since Oda remains a very talented writer, he manages to get by with a few sleights of hand here and there.
As for Zoro and this Sommers thing, I imagine the sleight of hand will be to tell us that using CoC without mastery weakens Zoro’s attacks, and that, on top of that, “the omen is the opppsite of CoC” will be enough for most fans to accept it as a valid explanation.

I don't know what the fuck Oda was smoking when he thought giving Zoro this dogshit character as an opponent was a good idea. This fight is absolute fucking garbage. This pathetic piece of shit spends the entire fight crying like a little bitch, completely killing any tension the fight could've had (not that there was any to begin with).
I genuinely don't understand why Zoro has to fight a character who's already been humiliated THREE TIMES in the same arc.
It's the same shit as Egghead. Why the fuck did we have to sit through Zoro vs Lucci when Luffy had already humiliated his ass 20 chapters earlier?
It's like Oda genuinely doesn't know how to make Zoro shine anymore without throwing him into pointless fights against characters who've already been made to look like complete jokes.

Sommer served his role as training dummy really well if loda hasn't completely lost it zoro should be joining the imu fight to test his perfected haki. It also feel very strange during zoro first encounter loda was hiding his face with goggles as if he wanted to hide his resemblance to a certain legend

Luffy and Zoro ended up close in the second popularity poll. I thought it was a joke and Oda really doesn't care what people think of luffy but he needs his MC to be at the top. Only one threaten Luffy is Zoro sadly.
