But Mihawk isn't much stronger than Shanks and Shanks isn't much stronger than Luffy

The Dark Continent in HxH probably hosts treasures more valuable than the One Piece, like insane power ups. The calamities discovered in travels/expeditions are probably a small fraction of the dangers there.
There might be S calamities or even SS.
The entire Lake Mobius which contains the known HxH world might represent a minuscule portion of the Dark Continent, maybe the size gap between a lake and Earth. -
