The anime filler content actually had some pretty interesting material about this that the manga didn't.
In the anime, sanji does some investigative work, tying in with cooking as he tries to learn more about the all blue in logtown and water 7.
Just character assasinate zoro like he did to sanji. Play up his worst traits and gags or just make up new ones that people hate, make him act incosistently, never give him cool moments to shine, and make him job repeatedly.
I think the intent was for nami to play a larger role in the story (like she does in skypeia, which is set up as a microcosm of the series as a hole) but since oda lost his touch sanji, robin, and law get more of a spotlight these days.
Luffy being a chosen one is honestly fine. One piece was never about hard work or anything.
The problem is that one piece is about freedom, found family, and inherited will, but Oda is moving in the direction that luffy's dreams/achievements/personality stem from the fact that he is a literal...
