I feel like Oda is waiting until after this flashback to reintroduce Kidd because it will be revealed that he has some type of connection with Rocks. (Vegapunk too imo). He is on/near elbaph fs. Shanks defeated him on the outskirts of the island. It only makes sense

Laws initial Popularity definetley got in the way of the shine Kidd was supposed to get post timeskip. Portrayal during the pre timeskip Shabaody arc made it clear that Kidd was introduced as the main non luffy/zoro supernova who we would have to really look out for. But once Oda saw that fans...

I read the Japanese text of the SBS question/answer. Oda refers to the “officer” that was “defeated” on the ship as Snacks

Oda just said that Kidd “defeated” the commander. I always said this even years ago. It makes no sense that Kidd was able to steal a poneglyph rubbing if all he did was injure him. Kidd had to have at least incapacitated him to get away.

Friendly rival. Most shounen have them (Vegeta, Yuno, Bakugo, ect). That’s what Kidd is to Luffy. The rivalry is still real, but they aren’t enemies because Kidd is not an antagonist. If it was meant to be a complete gag then Oda wouldn’t give Kidd the status/accomplish that he’s had.
