Current Events ‘Warrior God’ is a Fake Translation - Viz Official Translation is ‘Godhead’

Lmfao I'd trust the person who literally gets paid to do an official translation by a AAA company. You sound like an idiot.
Stephen Paul likes to add his own flair to his translations. If you read the Viz, you’d notice that the way the characters talk feels really weird at some points. He tends to make the characters speak like they’re from the 18th century, even though I’m sure he knows that the characters aren’t actually speaking like that.

The anime is the most official translation, so we may have to wait for the anime to clarify what their exact titles are

He does that because it's not supposed to be a 1:1 translation, not everything can be translated literally that's not how languages and translations work. Context and intent doesn't carry over seamlessly like that across cultures. It's his job to best translate things to the English audience keeping the same tone as the original, without compromising or altering the meaning drastically.

Regarding the topic of this thread, the initial translations sounded absolutely ridiculous, the viz sounds a lot more natural in English.

True but I am quite sure they are very strong.

We have 4 major entities/groups

Pirates - Yonkous with PK at top
Navy - Admirals with FA at top
Revolutionary army - Dragon as of now
And, world government biggest of them all- Gorosei with IMU at top.

I really don't think oda will depict any Gorosei weaker than Admirals/yonkous.
I dont see it tbh. WG wont have 9-10 Aokiji/Akainu level fighters on their side. How will strawhats ever win against them

I didn't know I would make you cry 😂

My bad bro, carry on.
@SkySanji is in his feels today because he is smart enough to know that "warrior god of agriculture/finance" doesnt make sense 😂😂 Go easy on him

The anime is the most official translation
smh, where do you guys get such info?

You literally said you would trust native speakers over the paid professional whose literal job it is to do the official translations for the english audience and was hired by the company itself. And you expected people to say, yea that makes sense lmao.

Log off this site once in a while, it's rotting your brain away.
Translation is not an exact science, no matter how much of an expert someone is.

We're simply discussing 1 word/term, not entire chapters/books. And the Japanese speakers (plus anyone who can read basic Kanji) has made it pretty clear that the VIZ translation removes the "war"/fighting connotation from the Gorosei titles.

Like ffs, it's literally the same Kanji used in Shichibukai...

Means nothing. It has to sound natural and make sense when written in english, it might sound natural in Japanese but that doesn't mean squat.

Again, there is no 1 right answer. It's up to the translator's discretion. Just saying that using "Godhead" removes the war/fighting connotation from the title that a native Japanese speaker would pick up on.
I don't disagree with that, I don't speak japanese nor read it, so I can't speak on how it sounds or what the reference or purpose is. In english however the viz sounds a lot more natural, I can critique that. Was the right call imo because the initial translation was a word vomit.

Right so you admit that Stephen is literally just westernizing it to make it more understandable for a western audience...something I was arguing pages ago.
I admit that Stephen is doing his job in translating from Japanese so it makes sense in english yea.

Again...languages don't work the way you think they do. Just having "warrior" in japanese doesn't mean that's the best way to translate it to english.

Stephen is doing his job at translating things so that they're very clearly understandable for a western audience, even if that results in slight alterations to the original meaning in the Japanese, yes, that's been my point this entire thread.

You're telling this to someone who speaks multiple languages and has a decent grasp on Japanese even, get off your high horse and stop assuming you know more than everyone else because you simply fucking don't.

Stop crying already, I quoted you for your dumbass take on trusting native speakers over the official translator.

You've now turned this into a "Stephen is doing his job but....but.."
