Eggheads been my favourite arc, and Oda proved his commitment to wrapping things up when he cut back to an occupied Egghead. It's been paced perfectly for an undersiege arc, and the breaks we get from the arc itself have been kino. I guess I understand where the doom and gloom about it comes from. Rereading both Dressrosa and Wano (after going through them weekly) shows that week to week really does warp perceptions about the series (though both have 2-3 plot threads that could have been dropped).
I understand we're all impatient to see the series done and over with, but when its over its over. Oda's been putting the story on overdrive as it has been, any faster and we'll be getting the cliff notes about the wrap up of One Piece. The character bloat is inevitable when you make a world as big and living as One Piece. While Doflamingos crew could have been smaller, but the Grandfleet and Kaido's BP really couldn't be. They are Emperors of the sea controlling vast swathes of the sea, it would be extremely underwhelming and lame for their entire fighting force to be unnamed fodder. They aren't stumbling around looking for Doctors, they aren't challenging their first Warlord, aren't even running from Admirals anymore. They are taking down massive pirate empires and soon the WG, of course the arcs are going to take longer.
Arlong Park was a bunch of fishmen bums Pre-TS Luffy low-diffed, Kaido/BM are Emperors with territory and massive fleets. I would think their arcs being of different length would just be common sense but I guess not. I'd also compare Wano and Dressrosa to see the massive improvement between, and judging by Eggheads pacing he's learned more lessons from Wano. I wouldn't even be surprised if he interweaves Kumas flashback with the crews counter attack on Egghead to prevent another Oden fb situation. We eating good and Oda is clearly picking up the pace which has always been the weak point.
