General & Others Am I the only one who is getting annoyed by the way BM is always badly portrayed just so that the Mugiwaras survive?

I have been annoyed by that ever since WCI arc, it's a very clear proof of Oda's limits as a writer if he doesn't know how to prevent the Straw Hats from being confronted by her with her real power and being killed as such other than by treating her so badly and ridiculousely and by using plot devices as absurd and nonsensical as Mother Carmel's picture or the wedding cake issue.

Mama's portrayal and straw hats plot armor are different things. Oda could simply find excuse to have her avoid meeting the crew.
Arlong never got clowned by weaker straw hats
Crocodile never go clowned by weaker straw hats
Enel never got clowned by weaker straw hats
Lucci never got clowned by weaker straw hats
Doflamingo never got clowned by weaker straw hats
Kaido never got clowned by weaker straw hats and never will
Basically it's just an excuse.
The truth is that Big Mom's joke portrayal is 100% intentional on Oda's part

So I guess you want them to look good collectively, but without taking on someone of significant importance.

We're twenty plus years deep. There are like five other characters at the same level and Oda has already established that match ups are dictated by style. Can we accept that several crew members at once can at least inconvenience this one big dog?

I don't think she's that badly portrayed, she keeps coming back like nothing happened and I find it congruent that she may be stalled for some time by the strongest fishman plus characters that may not be that powerful but have tricky abilities that even counter those of herself (Brook with souls, Nami controlling weather). Especially since she's used to just receiving attacks without caring at all.

My real problem may actually be with her homies since nothing really prevents Napoleon from going for Robin, for example; here lies the issue, I believe, as the three of them were portrayed as Big Mom's personal security guard that would annihilate a fly suspected of being an enemy, yet they've done next to nothing when actually required.

What I'm perfectly sure is that Oda is perfectly aware of this issue among the fandom because his narrative around Big Mom continuously tries to restore her hype. I don't recall how many times she has been explicitly put in the same level as Kaido by tons of different characters, and while I agree she's probably way closer to him than many others would believe (their characters are virtually linked in every layer), I also feel like Oda just pushes the idea in the more obvious way possible to counter the backdraw from putting her against way weaker fighters that she would destroy in direct combat.

I’m fine with it. ‘Tis the curse of being a big ol fatty.
She had her chance for me to take her seriously when she was sporting the hag/witch look:goyea:,
but then she just HAD to scarf down a whole wedding cake:gonope:

Plus I think the portrayals are a bit more even
Sure BM looks a fool chasin them around, but for all their troubles, the SHs haven’t put a scratch on her

Oda fucked this up. When Big mom goes against not named the strawhat, she's all about one shots. To be honest Oda shouldn't have included her in the arc. He could have made the Kaido BM allaince through Den Den Mushi correspondence between the two. She is just an unnecessary distraction. It's the same thing with Marco. Oda legit didn't want him in Wano but he seemed to change his mind midway.

Not in the slightest.
Big Mom's greatest trait is her not taking damage from normal means and secondly her strength(Ikkoku) . Nothing took a hit in the past 2 chapters ,so how exactly is it bad portrayal? Because Jinbe a former warlord had the strength to toss her ? Get real...

The problem lies when you think someone is a God like being. Sadly, many think that about the Yonkou.

Each time the Special Homies could have had a real impact on the situation they were conveniently inactive or absent as if by magic. The most aburd and best example being Prometheus not being here during the King scene or Napoleon not trying to do anything to remind BM of who she was and of who she was dealing with while amnesiac which is another proof of how convenient Oda's writing can be.
