Random books? Those books contained "everything Ohara has uncovered about world's secrets". Sakazuki even blew up a civilian ship so that no information gets leaked. Why would they not destroy books when they went through the trouble of destroying even buildings and trees?

Scholars are known for their books and studying.

There's no reason the Marines shouldn't have burned those books just as a matter of course. Even if they didn't realize their value to the ancient history, why wouldn't they burn the books under the possibility that those books hid secret messages on how to overthrow the WG?
