If we're assuming that the flashback is relevant to his thoughts in the fight with Luffy and not just for the sake of the readers, why is he remembering getting sold out by his government and not actually anything else related to Joyboy? We have no idea why he even thinks Joyboy would be someone he meets.

You're mad that I literally posted a page showing Luffy stating that he lost if Kong Gun didn't finish it, and that he thought Kaido had killed him lol. I was also going to post the scene of Luffy struggling to stay on Gear 4 near the end of 1042 but it seemed a little redundant.

And the statement by nature is rhetorical. If you assume it's a question even though nothing's being asked, you also have to contend with the point that the other person isn't accepting an "answer." You're not the writer of the story, just another guy on the message board, so there's nothing you can provide on your own.

Kaido doesn't explicitly say that he's Joyboy, but years before the journal even leaves Oden, he states that he is the only one who can change world. Whether or not he thinks he's Joyboy, he puts himself in the effective role.

Later he suggests explicitly that the idea that he's Joyboy is questionable. We can still tell that this was before Yamato finds the journal because of his facial hair.

So even if Yamato somehow convinced him that Joyboy is the one who will come to Wano, we have no clue about the time he learned of Joyboy, and how he came to believe that he is not the only one who can change the world. Oda hasn't rectified his beliefs with the respective falls of Rocks, Roger, Oden, or Whitebeard. We also have no insight into his conflict with Shanks.
