Character Discussion Are there any good-faith arguments for Nami being the left hand/unofficial general instead of Sanji?

"If anything, the only trio that matters is the OG, Luffy, Zoro, Nami. They are the captain's left and right hands. Sanji is just a cook."

Is something see often from people who want to downplay Sanji's importance in the crew, and the validity of the "Monster Trio" as a concept.

Now, as well already know, there will likely never be an official leadership role in the SHs besides the captain, but there are of course times when the crewmates will take the lead where Luffy cannot.

Although every member has had moments of leadership, Zoro takes this role most often, followed by Sanji. In Onigashima, these two are portrayed as a cut above the others, most recently in 1019 when Robin refers to Sanji as one of the Pirate King's Wings.

I absolutely love Nami, she's in my top 5 of favorite One Piece characters and I understand the crew would be dead 100x over if she wasn't around. But what am I missing here?

Zoro & Nami are Luffys pillars, but not in a way that's related to stregnth/power.

Zoro & Sanji are the wings that'll carry Luffy to being Pirate King when it comes to facing the dangerous enemies up ahead. Nami's role is to guide them.

She tells them what to do & where to go while Zoro & Sanji do majority of the work, which results in combat. Nami isn't a great combatant.

Wano has made that perfectly clear. So while you classify Sanji as "just a cook" know that the cook is often in charge of protecting your favorite girl. Nami is a navigator, her role is directing the ship.

Nami just isn't that person.

Zoro being a swordsman makes his role obvious.

Sanji cooks during the down times on the ship. Nami's role is to guide them while on the ship.

However, when you're facing the main enemy & their top 2 strongest fighters, Zoro & Sanji step up because the rest of the crew just can't compete with that specific enemy.

It was once said that Nami is the ship's captain(the working one, don't remember exact words or the source, either SBS or data book). Apart from Zoro, Nami, Luffy being oda's main characters(which should be obvious). There are some scenes especially in early series, where it is shown that those three are more important. Like with Alabasta, it was those three who were present in all important decisions(when first taking Vivi's request and all) and also about. Even the whole scene with Bellamy/BB. So yeah, she is essentially the actual right hand along with Zoro, but this is shounen... and even doa shifted all his focus on fights now. So Zoro and Sanji can be considered his so-called "Wings" as fighters. Though since it's been avoided being explicitly mentioned that Zoro is Luffy's right hand man or Nami is right/left hand. I am assuming oda just wants to stop keep things neutral among the crew at least in the story.

all Strawhats are wings for Luffy, get over it.
Exactkly. They're all important in the grand scheme of things nobody is more important than the other. Rankings & Titles do not matter.

Sanji's speech to usopp makes that clear. Luffy makes it clear in arlong. They're all equal.

At the end of the day you're all ( not anyone in here specifically ) basically trying to argue which strawhat is more important or special & I think that's foolish.

Not in a fighting or leadership sense. Sanji’s very clearly the number three guy there. The split at Saobody and the Swirlyhats, as the two off the top of my head, make that certain, but there will be more,

But you can certainly make an argument that Nami is closer to Luffy than Sanji is, and vice-versa. And that, I suppose, could be considered a left hand role in it’s own right.

Nami’s the main heroine of One Piece, that’s a different dynamic to what Sanji has. Her role in the series is not about leadership or strength, but more about emotional bonds. Just like Usopp’s as important as Sanji is, but his role is not to be one of the cool fighting badasses, but as an ordinary man travelling with extraordinary people in order to better himself.

Luffy Zoro and nami the only thing that they share is that they are the OG3 but that's it
Chapters ago Sanji was referred as one of the wings while Zoro is the other. Is clear that instead of RHM or LHM oda is using these term. They are the best 2 men In the crew.a similitary that it shares with Roger best 2 men
Equal importants and no one hierarchically above the other yet Zoro is stronger

Why are Zoro and Sanji fans so obsessed with them having imaginary privilege over the rest of the crew? They are the 2 strongest people I get it but it's not like they can order them around or the Strawhats would follow them if anything were to happen to Luffy
